Default Help for newbie please!

Hi...I was wondering if anyone could answer a couple of questions if you dont mind for a newbie.

I am looking at starting a small T shirt shop and will base my income on 2 avenues:

1. Retail/shop walk in - where i will have approx 50 of my own designs, each design printed on approx 10 shirt through different sizes hanging on the racks in my shop for sale

2. Custom made - Customers can send via my website or walk in and provide a design they want and i print within 24 hours for pick up.

From this info...i was wondering if you would know what equipment or equipments would best suit me for productivity and cost?

It seems like Screen Printing is the way to go but not the best option for custom make shirts. Would anyone recommend maybe getting 2 different types of equipments. Im not too keen on DTG as i hear its very expensive and quality is not as good.

Any feedback will be much luved.

Many thanks from New Zealand
Venna

For costs, inkjet digital transfers would be less expensive if you can stay with light colored shirts. There is the problem of the coating on digital transfers, but now most of them come off with one washing. This and DTG are the only ways you are going to be able to provide 24 hour turn-around. Screen printing gives you much more versatility, but small quantities are a problem because of the time involved in set-up.

You do have quite a few options. Screen printing is good for quick design work. However, if you have a lot of colors within the design, it may not be the best route for you. Using vinyl is also a good way to go. You will need to get a vinyl cutter/plotter and heat press. You can find info on this site regarding vinyl cutters/plotters such as Graphtec, Roland, & US Cutter for example. Also, you will find info on quality heat presses like Mighty Press, GeoKnight, Phoenix Phire, etc. Using inkjet heat transfers is a great way to go with complex designs. You would print the design onto heat transfer paper and then apply to the garment via your heat press. The quality of heat tranfer paper has improved greatly. I personally use heat transfers from Coastal which have worked out well for me. Imprintables Warehouse has also provided me with some good quality heat transfer paper. I would certainly advise against going the cheap route as far as equipment or supplies. As you will find on this site, many people will tell you, you get what you pay for. Cheap transfers like the Avery brand do not work well, in my opinion. Other people may advise the have had great results. But I can't say the same.
