A local bar is having a somewhat well known country singer doing an outside concert. The owner wants me to come up with a design using her logo as well as a design that has to do with the musician. I don't think this concert is big enough that they sell their own garments with the tour. Does anyone know if it is legal for me to put this singers name on a shirt or is the name copyrighted? I am will to completly create a new design but I don't think it would be very desirable if I don't at least put the artist's name. But I don't want to come up with a design, print a bunch of shirts, then get sued over copyright issues! Please help! Thanks!

You'll need permission from the singer to use her name and image on merchandise. Since the singer is doing a gig at the owner's venue, it's possible that they have a merchandise arrangement between them and that he has that permission (it's also possible that she reserved her merchandise rights, and he doesn't). You'd need to ask him what the agreement is.

I would tread lightly in this area... copyrighted images and logos can get you in some really hot water if your not careful
