can I use images I found on Google images on t-shirts?
I was looking in Google images and i found a few images i want to have on shirts now can i use them without getting gin trouble. I am going to make some changes using photoshop but am i allowed to use peoples images or drawings or w.e
re: can I use images I found on Google images on t-shirts?
Just because you find images in Google does not mean you can use them. You need to find out who owns them, and have the permission from that person that owns them, usually requiring purchasing license to use them. They may just be privately owned images that you cant use at all. The best thing to do is find royalty free images, that you purchase a use license and make sure it included using them for commercial uses.

Well im not using the exact copy im going to change it and make my own copy of it and. For some of the images i already had the idea but im just using images for inspiration and art styles and all that.
re: can I use images I found on Google images on t-shirts?
Well I would be very careful. It is a myth that if you change an image it makes it ok. Using any image, whether you change it or not, without permission is still not legal If you look at the left side of the forum down toward the bottom, there is a link to the us copyright site, as well as the us trademark site, that you can read more about the rules of using protected images.
If you still are uncertain, the best thing is to seek legal advice, as we can only give you are opinions here, but it is you that would get in trouble, not us

re: can I use images I found on Google images on t-shirts?
Been wondering the same type thing about a concept a chain music store has about putting guitars and instruments that people purchased on all overs that we make. Can I use a corporate logo if it from a product that some one purchased?
re: can I use images I found on Google images on t-shirts?
You can not take any part of someone else's image and modify it and make it your own. You must create your own from scratch. If it resembles their image in any way they may try and take you to court. if the court proves that yours was created based on theirs then you are screwed. now remember it may not be worth it for some to try and take you to court but they can pay an attorney to send you a cease and desist letter to stop you from selling it.

You cannot legally print someone else's logo. especially something like fender. plus fender has their own clothing line so they may come after you if you printed something like that.

Heres a good example everyone's doing the skull thing so who owns that i mean if i put a skull on my shirt who am i copying now if i throw in a guitar and it resembles someones drawing big deal. Stupid law if you ask me.

Its not a stupid law its copyright law. Lets say you come up with a design where a skull has 4 eyes and 2 mouths. you print shirts and you sell 10,000 units. now someone else comes up with the same concept after seeing yours but puts a crack on the skull. now he sells 15,000. would you say its a stupid law?

Here is a great bit of advice that Rodney once gave, stating Solmu's quote.
- Talk to lawyer if you want to do something that you think might be illegal or have a legal question. They will be the ones that can help you and even then, you could still get sued. But at least then, if you get sued and they said it was probably "ok", then at least you have someone that can go to court for you.
- Any "ways around it" advice given in a forum could get you sued. Even if 1000 people tell you it's OK, you could still get sued and have to come up with a lawyer and defend your right to do it.
- Why do you see other people doing it? Here's a good answer that was posted here before:
Original quote by Solmu:
"The usual story:
Some do whatever they want and wait for the cease and desist letter (and hope the company doesn't skip over it)
Some can afford lawyers to defend on the basis of parody, etc.
Some are in the process of getting sued and losing
Some are in the process of getting sued and winning
Some are just lucky and not getting caught
Some are just lucky and not getting caught... yet
Some will plan to settle out of court
Some are ignorant of the law and don't realise the world of hurt that is coming
Some are carefully staying on the right side of the legal divide
Some are carefully staying on the right side of the legal divide, but will be sued anyway, and unable to afford an adequate legal defense even though what they were doing was theoretically legal.
In other words, some are getting away with it, some aren't."
Endquote

You came here and asked our opinions, and we have given them. That is all we can do as far as that goes. If you are still in doubt it is best to seek legal advice. We may not have given you the answers you wanted, but we gave you the answers we know.
