I am 14 years old and I want to start my own t-shirt business.
I am wanting to start up my own clothing company and I really need help getting started. Once again I am 14 years old. Are you able to start your own business at age 14? Where do I start? Thanks for your time!

CA. Welcome to the forum. There is no age minimum for starting a business. The first thing you have to do is prepare a business plan. Here's a website that might give you some guidance. Small Business Administration - Write a Business Plan.
Good luck with your venture and don't be afraid to ask the forum a lot of questions. Just make them specific so you can get some accurate answers.

Hi CA and welcome to the forum. I agree that there's no age to start a business. when I was starting out what I did was I opened a little free shop on Cafepress with a couple of designs to see people's reactions, I also read a lot about business and t-shirt printing techniques. You gave a very good first step though by getting into this forum, here you can find all the information you need to start on your own.
Good luck!

I think there are some states with minimum age requirements in filing for a business license. You could have your parent file it for you do if this is the case.

Great advice you've gotten so far. You have to look up your state's Business Website. The information for your state will be on there.
I love Ed's advice to seek the help of the Small Business Development Center. I used mine, and cannot stress enough what a huge help it is. It is paid for by taxes, so it in a sense free to you as you do not pay again for the services. They help with everything from start thru growth.
Two biggest helps for me were: In business: the SBDC, and For tshirts: this website.
Best wishes to you for a long, happy, successful career.

Yes. Many businesses are only online businesses, no brick and mortar storefront.
All businesses, whether online or brick and mortar, have to adhere to the requirements of their state when conducting business.
For conducting business, as well as filing taxes, I suggest you get an EIN number (Employer Identification Number.) If you register as a sole proprietor you will not be required to do so, as long as you do not have any employees, but I highly, highly recommend it for the simple fact that you can shield your social security number from every Tom, **** and Harry wholesaler out there that you may purchase from.
Check with your states business website, and/or contact the SBDC. Those resources will help you learn if you have to collect sales tax or not, and how to file it.
Good luck to you. Great to see a go getter like yourself.
