Personally I don't think it's a good idea at all, not just at first. Why? Because it's confusing to customers, and it splits your brand's focus.
It's important for your branding that you have consistency. If some of your products are, for example,
DTG printed shirts from Cafepress while some of your shirts are screenprinted shirts that you send out yourself, you're running two completely different companies under the one name.
You run the risk of leaving customers scratching their head on why they can't just order two different shirts they want in one shipment.
You can't market consistently, because you're not selling the same product depending on which one people choose.
If you wanted to run a POD site and a site based on pre-printed inventory then personally I would recommend running them as separate brands.
