Need to Register?

Does anyone know where I can find out if someone's nickname is trademarked? I was wondering if (i'm sure it is) "The Iceman" (George Gervin, ex-NBA player) etc. was trademarked. I want to put it on a shirt. Any info would help. Thanks!

i think you can go to the governments trademark website and look it up. idk the address but you can google it and see.

hey just wanted to provide a little advice since I have dealt with clothing trademarks in the past... what you want to search is class 25 goods (clothing) for ICEMAN on the uspto.gov site mentioned above. my guess is somewhere its probably already used, and trademark rules come down to date of first use. so in your case you are intending to use the mark, which means if anyone else has already used the mark they have first rights. I did a quick search on the first 50 entries that came up and it seemed the mark was attempted to be registered in the past but was eventually abandoned. who knows, maybe the uspto examining attorney found a likelihood of confusion with a similar mark, or possibly the companies trying to register the mark went out of biz.

my suggestion is that between George Gervin and Chuck Lidell (the ultimate fighter who also is know as The Iceman) someone has used the mark, and it probably is registered if you dig deep enough.

Quick, question. I am thinking about making a tshirt but not sure if this is trademark infringement. The shirt has only words on the front ... "LEAFS SUCK" Is that considered trademark? I am not using a logo, not using the Leafs font, not even using the full team name.

Anyone have any suggestions, or past experiences?

I would say you would probably be ok, unless you were selling these to a major department chain. that is also saying that you don't use the same font or colors as the Maple Leafs... thats just my guess....
