Default Screen vs. DTG

Hey guys-
I am designing some shirts for my organization. I know you can get pretty good quality with DTG (you can too w/ screens, but need much more screens). Someone's told me tho, that with DTG, the ink doesn't last as long- and will fade/crack/peel quickly. Unfortunately, most people won't take the time to turn a shirt inside out, and only wash it on cold. They'll just throw it in the laundry with all the rest. So for those reasons, it seems like Screen Printing is the way to go.

Is there any truth to that statement- does screen printing last & wear longer/better than DTG? I have a shop offering to do DTG on their T-Jet, but want to verify the longevity of a DTG process over screen.
Thanks!

There is truth that screen printing with plastisol inks will last longer than DTG. However, I would not say that DTG fades quickly.

To see the effects washing will have on the printer you want to use, have them give you a sample shirt printed with the DTG and do your own wash tests.

You can also search at the top of the page on 'dtg wash test'. Some posts should come up where folks have done their own wash tests with various DTG printers and posted pictures.

Wow. Thanks for the help. Yeah- after about 10 washes, you really notice some fading/dissipating. I think that's why I'd prefer screen printing for my design...

Does anyone know if you can print plastisol on a black shirt that was already pretreated for a T-Jet?
