Question had enough with the bad news? Article from SGIA

Just read this interesting post from the SGIA blog here:
SGIA Blog: Enough Bad News Already

Seems like the *good* news is getting buried by the bad news that continually gets major press.

From the post. This was news, but it didn't make the headlines:

Quote:
"Online spending rose 19 percent in January with clothing and accessories sales soaring by 32 percent"
Read the full post here: SGIA Blog: Enough Bad News Already

Of course it's a reality that many people are still having a tough time, but is the news making it worse for the industry?

What are your thoughts?

Tells me that you've got to be online or have an online presence to really expand your field of opportunity.

It wasn't just online sales that rose, though.

From the post:

Quote:
"Retail sales in the US made a surprise 1 percent rebound in January 2009"
Quote:
"H&M said that sales in December 2008 were 3 percent ahead on the previous year. January's sales are expected to be 8 percent ahead"
I do agree though...having an online presence is CRAZY important. I wish I could stress enough how much local printers could benefit from a strong online presence.

But I think it may not all be bad news out there.

Rodney,

Great post. I agree it seems like the good new is buried under a growing perception that things are going to get worse and there is nothing we can do about...

One of the exciting things about our industry is that it sees a lot of new businesses spring up during economic downturns. Companies are going to listen more to their customers and come up with innovations that provide better products and services. I'm excited to see what people come up with (I'm looking at you - Mr. IWearYourShirt.com).

I have to agree with Nathan. I think one of the reasons there is such growth in this field, is that people losing their 9 to 5 jobs, are branching out trying to be self employed. It probably happens often when regular employment goes down, that small business's increase in numbers. I have talked to quite a few people, who have decided since losing their jobs, they have decided to try the small business route.

I guess it depends on how you look at it, that it could be a good or a bad thing for us

I agree with your post. Sometimes Some Small businesses need more Investment then Entering to Clothing line[in any way]. that can be the reason to increase competition in this field then more other?

I doubt if well settled employer [in good Company] even loss his/her job if this situation stays for another 6 months.

Situation is getting better in [very] few fields but not in many factors afterall. here is the summery i will be looking at every month to see half of the field do enough growth?
FRB: Beige Book--Summary--January 14, 2009

Lets hope for the best!

NiL
