Default Legal question regarding naming of t shirt range question

Is it legal to name your t shirt company after a celebrity, but change one of the names slightly, for example

For example a t shirt line called Keanu Sleeves instead of Keanu Reeves.

The one I came up with isnt quite as corny sounding as that example, it sounds kinda cool and I think it could have a subconscious effect of linking my t shirt brand to a celebrity, possibly relinking the memory in peoples minds when they see the celebrity.

If there was no other mention of the celebrity and no images used of them, would it be perfectly legal to use that name?

I think you are on thin ice. If I were you....I would NOT take rely on info here. I would certainly consult an attorney. The mere fact that you ask the question leads me to think you already know the answer.

My thought is it might be legel but someone can take you to court for what every they want true or not. You will still have to defend yourself costing youlots of money. You have to decide if it is worth it. I wouldn't chance it unless it is something to make tons off of. That is even if it is legel at all.

This is the whole purpose of trademark and related laws. People who invest time, money, and effort to make their name marketable do it to make money for themselves. The minute a third party tries to take advantage of that is the moment you are going to find yourself in court.

I have no doubt the concept has potential to make money, but I also don't think it takes a lawyer to tell you that you can't do this.

Maybe you can try to get into some type of licensing agreement.

It is my understanding that there is a mechanism to do so.

There generally is, but depending on the specific country it may be impractical or impossible (which still doesn't make it right).
