Question selling enough to survive.

i roughly worked out if i sell 25 - 30 tees a week then it's the equvilent of the last job i had weekly wages. my question is, how many tees do u sell on average a week and how long did it take u to build up to that number?

apologies if this is a rude question, lol.

For starters, here's an interesting past thread about how much people make (for those that were brave enough to share):

That is "IF" you sell 25-30 tshirts a week. I think that's a bit optimistic, especially if you're going to heavily rely on online traffic through search engines without a marketing plan. I don't know what your plan is.

I'm assuming 1 tshirt a day would be a good conservative number to work with (7 shirts/week).

That's just my opinion. I haven't started selling myself so I'll let you know what the numbers are like once I go live.

I agree...unless you have tons of marketing cash...dont expect to make those numbers for quite a while.

25-30 is very attainable (in my opinion). I dont think it is that much at all.

think 100-200 is more of a full time job point.

I agree...it is very possible, however NOT from the get go, unless you have people waiting in droves to buy it (pre-orders). I think those are numbers you have to work towards upon starting up your online tshirt business.

You can have the greatest T-shirts in the world, but if people don't know about it....

I haven't actually started yet, so let's hear from those of you who have gone live.

A buddy of mine sold about 10000 shirts on the first month his company opened up to the public. Of course, his target demographic is completely different (urban hiphop crowd). They're doing extremely well, but mostly design and sell shirts to retailers, and not actually selling the shirts directly to the consumer. They just hired a new designer to their talented team. Their shirts have been seen on or in magazine with DJ Nasty, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Christina Milian. Yep, all this was done within 10 moths of opening shop... very inspring story.

orisue.com

It's not a retail operation, but here's a list of stores that carry their products [on the site] (both online and standard stores throughout the US and few outside of the country).

Since I'm a good friend, I think I can get him to give me a few of the shirts LOL

The real key here is HOW did that happen

It's not the norm, and it's not easy.

But with the right product and most importantly, the right marketing and promotion, it can happen.

Selling shirts wholesale to retailers will get you to 10,000 shirts pretty quickly Especially if you open your company at a tradeshow and are taking orders there with a lot of exposure.

Oh definitely. We're good friends and I'm still unable to get him to spill it! LOL Well, good thing we don't go after the same demographic. It's still a pretty cool story regardless, especially all the celebrities wearing his shirts.
