All the info you ask for is at usps.com site.
Here is the link to get you started. http://ircalc.usps.gov/default.asp?M...ngle&CID=12147
Just select Canada from the drop down list.
You will need to fill out Custom Forms which you can also do on usps.com.
Make sure to let your customers know that they might have to pay Canadian duty/tax on their order.
I live in Canada. If you ship via USPS, it will arrive via Canada post. I don't think a tracking number is usually available for most types of shipping.
With UPS I think you can have a tracking number, but UPS is usually more expensive to ship here (depending on the item).
Personally I prefer USPS, because it is cheaper for me and I don't really care about the tracking number.
Depending on what you are shipping, and how much the declared value is, your customers may have to pay extra customs fees or taxes. Usually I have only had to pay fees on stuff that is $60 or more, but this isn't always the case.
Make sure when you ship the package you declare the actual value and don't mark it as a "gift". Like Mark said, let your customers know that they may have to pay extra customs fees. Most Canadians are familiar with this process but you should have it on the site just in case.
As for shipping time, about 2 weeks is about the usual with the Global priority mail (USPS), it's pretty reasonable.
last that I check I dont think I can fit a shirt in a flat rate envelope..
shirts dont weigh that much.. but obviously it needs to be shipped as package, when I click on package it gives me envelopes and other random stuff due to the shirts not being so heavy... I just need people with first hands on experience of shipping to canada.. I tried at the usps site.. I've clicked on everything there... looked at everything, it just doesnt seem to help me much..
if I could just get some personal feedback on prices, not suggestions or back to where I started from that would be great...
thanks jason...
oh and I meant to send a shirt.. how much would that cost me? thanks!
You do get free tracking with USPS *if* you use their on-line service, but if you are shipping to Canada or Mexico I would recommend going to the post office; because when I make my label on-line it charges me $9.50, but if I go to the post office in person I pay $7.50 (or something like that). Post office lady said there was a glitch or something.
So for up to a 16 oz. Tyvek envelope shipping Priority International it should cost you $7.50 (or something like that ... can't remember the exact amount.) There's really no need to ship in a box unless you are sending more than 3 shirts. It *is* possible to put at least one shirt in the flat rate envelope but you really have to cram it in there and it doesn't look very professional.

I hear that a lot, but it's a bunch of BS.
You can fit anything up to a 3XL in the small flat rate envelope if you try hard enough, and anything from half a dozen average sizes to three 3XLs in a large flat rate envelope.
Now that said, it will be squashed and some people aren't comfortable presenting their product that way. But if you want cheap and efficient, it works just fine.
Really? It's quicker than that to Australia, that's just crazy.
I meant that 2 weeks is an acceptable amount of time to wait for a package. Typically I get packages within about a week if they ship right away.
I don't know how customs is in Australia, but here I have had stuff delayed by them for up to a month (and then have to pay extra fees of course). It's pretty darn annoying.

Ah, fair enough.
Global Priority takes roughly 3-13 days to get to Australia, with 6-10 being typical. Likewise, I think up to 2 weeks is fine (unless you're warned it's going to be more before you agree to purchase).

Australian Customs is one of the better ones, and Canadian one of (if not the) worst from what I've read (obviously I'm talking from an end-customers point of view - not necessarily how good they are at doing their job).
Australian Customs rarely delays things; 2-3 days is about the most I've heard. They also almost never charge fees.
(I should qualify "worst" - I mean worst service that could still be considered a fully functioning service... obviously Italy is far worse for example, but sending anything to Italy is just postal roulette)

Yeah. I was shipping to a guy in the UK and gave him the option of the small flat-rate cardboard envelope versus the large Tyvek (I think it was almost a $4 difference with the Tyvek costing more) and he choose the Tyvek.
Me ... I'm a cheap-a$$ and would've gone with the flat-rate.

Me too, which is why I'm such a passionate defender of the flat rate
From an end-customer point of view I always like to save as much money as possible. I like finishing touches and end presentation, but rarely at the expense of... well... expense.

I shipped some t-shirtforums t-shirts to members in Canada via USPS Airmail and it took about 4-5 days I think and cost less than shipping Priority Mail within the US! I think it was like $3 or so for one t-shirt via Airmail to Canada (or Mexico).
