Default Abandoned shopping carts

There aren't a lot of carts created but about 3/4 of them are being abandoned. I would think people leave at that rate because their is a problem with the checkout process. Customers can pay by cc, PayPal or send a check so all payment options are open to them.

Problems with the checkout process are just one reason for cart abandonment. Sometimes people just add things to their cart and lose interest, or they get interrupted (computer crashes, phone rings, etc). Sometimes there is not enough info on the site (Privacy policy, return policy, etc) for them to feel safe completing the purchase. Also, sometimes they add things to their cart just to check how much the shipping will add up to.

For a second there, I thought the Bob was talking about those shopping carts that people leave outside of supermarkets.

Do you have your shipping costs defined before the checkout?

Are the checkout pages on a secure server?

Are your return policies and privacy policies clearly defined and linked to?

Is your turnaround time clearly stated? Is it too long?

Just some things to check.

Default Re: Abandoned shopping carts

the only time I'll abandon a shopping cart is when I have to give all my information and cc# before they give me a final total with shipping costs. Nothing like being surprised that you can't back out of your purchase, when the shipping is going to cost more than the product.

ok, one other time......but its not really abandon, I'll drop a few items in the cart, so I dont forget to purchase them when I go to do my shopping from that site (circumstances at times will require me to wait for more info before I finish my purchase)

Thanks for the responses. I checked my site again and I do have all the bases covered that were mentioned.
