Default Who started the busy clustered design trend?

Anybody know how and when that trend got started of clustering a whole lot of design elements into one big chaotic mish-mash? I've seen this a lot on t-shirts in retail stores.

I imagine that it would be very difficult to find out exactly who the credit goes to. And yep, I've seen a lot of those designs, even on hoodies and sweatshirts.
