just curious who on the forums(if any) have been lucky enough to get a celebrity to wear one of their tees? how did u make it happen and did your sales of that tee, or your tees in general, go up after the exsposure?
I haven't launched by line yet, but my girlfriend has. She has had many celebrities (football player on GQ magazine cover) and many small "celebrities" meaning hosts on TLC and etc. wear her designs. One thing is, celebrities usually don't like wearing clothes that are sent to them. In her situation, she was surprised herself that people on tv were wearing it because she never tried to contact them. One thing is for sure, if your clothing is on tv, it won't help much unless your clothing name is pasted visibily.
Yea, that would be great if a celebrity wears your line. Especially if its visible and its pictured in a magazine or tabloid, heck yea, your line would create a major "buzz", that's major press. Furthermore, everyone would want to know wear to get it. Exclusivity peaks interest!
Some people hire PR agents/publicity firms/marketing firms to get their line in the hands of the celebrities' reps. Its a big marketing strategy here in L.A. Celebrity driven. I have a NY PR firm representing my line. My target launch date is April 2nd.
I have several celeberties wearing my stuff. I wont officially start shipping until december, but I have made several special oneoffs and given them to a few of my friends (who are actors, directors, and musicians on tour). This is not related to my tshirt business, but This is a picture of some "jackass" wearing a special one off I made especally for him to promote a film I just finished working on. By the way the movie is "National Lampoon's TV the Movie" which will be out in a limited theatrical run at the end of November.

I've only sent a shirt to Jorge Garcia of the TV show Lost and he actually sent me a "crew shirt" in reply. Oh, and I sent some to the gang at KROQ the night before they interviewed me, but they knew those were coming.
I have thought about sending shirts to certain TV shows, but I don't know how to guess the sizes of the celebrities. Any tips?
My friend and cousin, who are both in the TV/feature film industry, knows the costume designer to Entourage and knows Debi Mazar personally. The main audience who watch Entourage are my clothing line's target market. I'm sending a few to the cast in medium and large.
Well this person isnt an actor but if you watch drag racing you may know him..
Atron Brown who is a motorcycle drag racer has a couple of our shirts. that are rc boat racing shirts..
I know that hiring PR agents is a great way to get your clothing in the hands of celebs and on TV shows.
The guy from urbangolfgear regularly gets his clothes worn by celebrities (and it's featured a lot on the HBO series "The Wire"). He has a PR firm that helps him make the connections. He also networks by way of events/tradeshows.
PR firms can be an expensive investment though. If your design hits it big, it could be well worth it though.
Yea, well established PR firms will charge a monthly retainer in the range of $5,000-$20,000. The "smaller PR firms" will charge a monthly retainer around $2,500. Its true though, the designs will gain major media attention, national and international recognition.
I've read that there are PR firms that charge per placement (not monthly retainer) but haven't found one yet. Did anyone hear about them? I also came across PR that sends birthday presents to celebs. They wanted $100 to include your tee to the goodie bag that will be sent to Afleck's daughter for 1st birthday. At least they claim that it will be sent but there is no way to know.
