Default [starting a clothing line] should I order more inventory to get better pricing from the screenprinter or stick with smaller runs, smaller profits?

Ive been working on a apparel company for a while now and ive been having to pay to get copyrights, trademarsks, and the graphic designer that is doing each design for each shirt. I am now ready to get shirts i will sell them for $25 each, ive noticed the more you get the cheaper is is to get them and screenprint, I dont see the point in buying any until i can buy alot? can any one give me some advise? thanks

no, if i order 12 shirts it ends up being like $18 a shirt, if i order $500 its like $10 a shirt!, so im just wondering how to go about doing it i want to start getting the product out there but i dont know if i should wait and order a lot at first? thanks matt

When I first started I found the same to be true. So I ordered 36 shirts from a wholesaler just to get a cheaper price. However that met for me that, I purchased sizes that I did not need. (because I did not actually have orders yet) I would recommend to purchase the screeners minimum which is likely to 12 shirts as samples that you can present to potential customers. It would be great if all our customers were the same size. We could rake in the dough!

You should order as much as your business plan and budget allows.

If you can't afford 500 t-shirts, then you shouldn't buy 500 t-shirts (especially if you don't have a marketing plan that will help you sell those t-shirts)

There's no harm in starting out small, seeing if those sell, then using those profits to buy more inventory.

That may mean that you make less profits starting out, but it also minimizes the risk of getting stuck with a lot of inventory that didn't sell as well as you planned.
