Default Using Existing Artwork / Images You See All Over the Place

I noticed that many t-shirt sites that sell shirts online have the same designs that are popular from movies. For instance one I saw is "Callahan Auto Parts" T-Shirt that uses the same logo/design on each t-shirt site I saw.

My question is, are these types of designs royalty free and where would you get them?

I've tried sites like istockphoto, clipart, etc. but these are all generic type designs where I'm looking for the popular ones like the example I gave.

Thanks

Default Re: Using Existing Artwork / Images You See All Over the Place

i'm sure a lot of these designs are either done freehand or reimagined images done by the designer, that is, the designer took certain liberties with a fictitious movie reference and made something different. as far as I know these t-shirt companies have no official license which is why a lot of people copy each other. lastexittonowhere.com is a good example, but I think he does it very well and his shirts are pretty decent quality, whereas there are a few cheap zazzle/cafepress type sites copying the same idea but selling cheaper versions.
