What is the best method to use if I want my design to look like a stitched label without actually using a woven label?

Default What is the best method to use if I want my design to look like a stitched label without actually using a woven label?

Hi all,

First, I'd like to say that this site is a treasure! You're all so experienced and helpful and generous w/your advice.

Here's my question (I'm extremely new, and extremely ignorant at this point)... If I'd like my artwork to look like a garment/clothing label (to look like it's woven/stitched), but not actually have a label made (I think that'll be too expensive) b/c I want it to appear on the front of my shirts...would I be better looking into a freelance artist or graphic designer?

Also, what do you think the best printing method would be? (keeping in mind I'd like it to look as realistic as possible..).

Thanks so much in advance for all your input. I really appreciate it.

Barbara

Firstly welcome, you could buy webbing by the metre, the width usually starts about an half an inch up too about three inches in width.it comes in a variety of colors depending on the artwork, whether its a font style or a small graphic logo image, you could get repeated on a screen and print your logo in plastisol ink works a treat .

I would take your label artwork and separate the stitching from the rest of the artwork. I would then have your printer print the main label in a discharge waterbase and the stitches in either plastisol or puff paint. What you are trying to do is give the illusion of a raised stitch.

Best method would be screenprinting. There are companies out there experimenting doing exactly what you want. One of the recent Impressions magazines showed a screenprinted shirt that looked just like a leather label.

There are some heat transfer companies doing puff transfers than can give you a similar effect, I've written to a couple and asked for samples but I think they forgot about me.
