Default Redbubble... Attractive site... How's their quality..?

I've been checking out RedBubble and I'm really liking what I'm seeing; the site is very attractive and some of the artwork on there is absolutely stunning. The quality of their photographic prints is apparently very high. So what's the quality of their t-shirts like? They use American Apparel shirts in a variety of colors (I'm wanting to use black) and "direct to garment printing... an industrial version of traditional ink jet printing technology." Can someone translate this into English for a lowtech newbie like me?
I'm looking for 1) Quality (first and foremost) 2) Ease of use (for lowtech, business-unsavvy me) 3) Visibilty/Accesibility (for my customers) 4) Profit (if possible).
So I guess here's my bottom line question: as far as quality goes, would any one of you experienced folks on this site NOT buy a t-shirt that was manufactured by RedBubble?

Oh no... Thanks for the honest answer, Raub, even though it wasn't the one that I was hoping for... Anyone else have problems with American Apparel? What about Redbubble's t-shirt printing process? I'm definitely planning to try to sell some photographic prints and posters there; it's a very cool site with lots of very talented artists...

Hi Ben, Red Bubble in the header caught my eye. I can't say anything bad about them. I haven't delt with them and are unlikely to do so because I don't want my T's being sold through an agent. If I am going to be on-line it will be my site and I will live or die by my own hand....not someone elses! There are heaps out there Cafe Press, Zazzle who are making a fortune of people just like you and me. Set up your own website and market yourself, it's not that hard!

Thanks, John, I really appreciate your perspective (and everyone else's here). The more I read on this forum, the more things seem to be coming together...
One thing I'm thinking about doing is getting a few good quality posters made at a local photo shop and test marketing them on eBay; if there's interest, I'll take the next step. I want to eventually get into t-shirts as well.
Is the reason that you like to have control over your work/product primarily because of quality concerns, or because of profit concerns?

Hi Ben, Don't have anything to do with posters, don't intent to in the future! You can spread yourself to thin as I have found out in the past. Specialty T's are a multi million unit market. I believe T's and other stuff can give you a very good income.....or a small fortune!

So far I have only done small runs, 50 is the max. Just wanted to suck it and see! I didn't make a lot on Ebay but I learnt some good lessons. I wouldn't say the agencies are deliberately less vigilant, but why risk you reputation because they could make mistakes. And profit wise.....you have to weigh up whether or not you can make more doing your own thing. Personally, as always, I want to do it my way. If I end up making more so be it. But if I end up selling $35 T's I know the customer at the other end wants a hell of a lot more than someone buying a $10 T in a Sunday market. Cheers

I must say that the SEO is great as a lot of my t-shirts are on the first page of google... just search 'heath ledger t-shirt' as an example and you should see me there (I see myself).

I have a couple black t-shirts that I bought from RedBubble and the colours seem to pop... one has yellow on black and the other a range of bright colours including white. American Apparel tees are fine as long as you wash them in cold water, hot water will make them revolt.
