What? Looks like standard Old School 50/50 script to me This guy would have to be at least 100 to claim that as an original style. looks like a standard pen striping/tattoo style font to me.

I said it before and ill say it again im sorry but Johnny Cupcake is a POSEUR Im suprised he made it this far ripping logos which we have recognized since we were kids, especially the Jordan Logo. I respect and give props to an artist whos struggling any day than a Faker like him....

Much love to you artist who stay original... As far a Cupcakes goes i cant wait till his empire collapses.....

Hi. As a designer myself, I can appreciate how easy it is to end up copying someones design unintentionally. An 'original' idea may be something we briefly glanced at a couple of years ago and sits dormantly at the back of our minds, until one day we have a flash of inspiration and come up with an original idea.

The reality is, that very few ideas are original. Lichtenstein developed his style from comic books, Banksy imitates street art, Warhol used images of Monroe and a branded soup can.

Many big corporations are happy to shout 'copyright infringement' and plead injustice. When the small guy shouts 'copyright infringement' at the big corporation though, they are seen as hustlers, liars and trouble makers. It's nice to see on this occaision though, that the big player has put their hand up and admitted the error.

I think that is what a lot of people like the most about his company. His forte for awhile was changing popular logos around that we all into a baking theme. That is what he was obviously trying to do. Didnt try to hide it. Calling him a poser is a bit harsh, IMO.

It looks like he was pretty cool about removing the designs that were similar to 126... seems like a reasonable guy

Of course, he doesn't want bad press..But lets see if he fires his "friend freelance designer." I doubt it.

not sure what to say about this, but from what i know about johnny cupcakes, he seems like a really cool guy. he seems like a hard working guy that worked his way up and still runs his company as if it isn't a giant company. i got alot of respect for him. also the same thing happened between him and Billabong with a shirt depicting gold teeth ona shirt.

Won't say anything bad about the guy because I don't know the guy personally. But all I can say is, the 'nice down to earth' who came from 'nothing' story really has hit his audience. I personally think his story is BS, and overexaggerated. He has many celebrity friends which is also why he has another leg up. He has been friends with some of these celebrities for a long while, ahem....while he was struggling.

With any large business comes publicity, some of it good and some of it bad. The good publicity will inevitably come from their own publicity machine and the bad publicity from the people they are in dispute with.

It is all about balance. We can all be guily of errors, whether that be intentional, or unintentional. When you go from being a small business to a large business, your mistakes will inevitably be broadcast to a much bigger audience.

Im pretty sure that any tattoo artist can "Replicate" that style of calligraphy.
If I make a design with that style , and different words, Am i ripping of these two companies?

I dont think so.

I also think that the artist did a pretty bad job of disguising his "Inspiration"

A Einstein said, "The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources."

Word.

No, replicating the calligraphy isn't the subject in question. Anyone has the right to use that style of calligraphy.

As for the calligraphy characteristics being identical with many of the characters, it shows evidence that this was not a fluke. Even JC agrees it was wrong, there's nothing here to disagree about.

The originals were hand drawn by designer Jon Contino and retraced by the freelance designer for Johnny Cupcakes.
