I was unsure of what process is used to make such an item so that's why my post is here.
I saw a very nice picture printed on a leather handbag tonight from a lady. She said the bag is made by Gina Alexander out of CA. I think this is such a unique and nice product!
Would anyone know how a picture or any other graphic is printed on a leather handbag/leather material in this manner?
It does look like dyesub, but it could be inkjet or laser . The wallet is leather and canvas, so you could heat press it with transfer paer of some kind. I think it may be inkjet myself. ..... JB
On the "Questions" page it says "printed on bridal satin" which leads me to believe it is dye sublimation.
The bags are made of leather and satin panels, wallet is leather and canvas.

You are right.
I zoomed in on one of the handbags, and I can see the leather structure, but it can very well be thru a thin layer of satin. The picture will of course be much more durable this way.
Thanks very much everyone for the insight! That's interesting about the layer of satin, as I could not tell it was present.
But at the same time, I did not ask the lady to see her purse up close. I saw it from a few feet away.
With the dye sub process, would this mean the pic is printed directly to the leather, or heat pressed to it? I have not explored the dye sub world so count me clueless.
Not sure if two steps could be combined. I have never worked with leather, but for dye-sublimation to work you generally need to press the design at 200 C for about 45 sec - I'm afraid, leather will get damaged.
Looking through most of the images - a lot of bags are combination of canvas with leather trims, sides and handles; some bags have satin panels (not necessarily glued onto leather, could be just stitched to an inner/ liner of some sort); fabrics like tapestry and corduroy are used to enhance the designs and some bags are described to have an "underglass" layer over printed fabric.
It does look really impressive! Got to make me one of those Well... At least a canvas tote - my sewing skills will not go as far as all the leather trims and zips and "bells and whistles"

Our company, Imagein Leather, actually printed those panels for Gina Alexander.
You can visit our web sites: Welcome to Imagein Leather or Leather Graphics
and see what we can do.
We're based in Anaheim, CA and we print the leather here at our facilities.
I know I'm bumping an old post but does anyone know how this was achieved the imageinleather website seems to be offline and no more and I'm quite curious... I wonder if its at all similar to the method used by jon wye for his belts..He seems to be the only successful leather printer I've seen thus far.
Any information about imageinleather or the process as a whole would be great.
Has anyone successfully printed one or multiple colours onto leather or seen it done in person before???
Kindly
