Default How has the current state of the Economy affected you?

Well, we all know the country is in a "Recession" and as business owners & many just starting out how has the economy affected you?

One of the first things affected when the economy is doing bad is the Apparel industry. People "tighten" their belts, don't shop as much. Maybe hold onto those clothes they were about to donate to the Salvation Army.

Me? Where I used to buy cases of shirt, just to have on hand, I now wait to run through my lot, before ordering more shirts. And when I do order, it's by the dozen.

I've cut down on the amount of shirts I give away...

I'm looking at my heatpress & thinking if you don't pay for yourself in 3 months, you're outta here! lol!!!

Who knows how long it'll last!

I'm trying to keep gas in my car!

What are you guys experiencing? Has your customer base dropped? You have to lower prices to get sales?

it's a shame to see detroit actually fall due to lack of manufacturing support.......

businesses still need uniforms and such. advertising is still king. yeah I have slowed a bit but I am not in the designer end of the business which is what gets hit the hardest during tough times. I primarily supply bars, landscaping construction (yeah they still order) and other smaller companies. It is tough right now and probably will get tougher but this is what weeds out the weak and makes it profitable for the rest of us. that is cold and calus but it is the truth.

Just got a used 6cyl van. Cost 80.00 to fill up! I don't know how you make it paying a bill like that! Hopefully we will prove to be one of the "stronger" ones and not fall off like a dead twig

Out da box that is nothing... I have an F150 and it costs $105 to fill up! anyway, to answer the original question of this post, I am seeing a small drop in buys while my amount of visitors is at an all time high. I agree with some of the other posts, however, that there is always business out there and always people who need shirts, you just need to be able to find them, or even better they need to be able to find you. I think the one thing to keep in mind is don't overspend right now, just spend what you need.

We just finished an order for 20,000 shirts for a namebrand shirt contract... we have 20k more starting this week and an order for 30k shirts in July... The economy is not amazing right now with gas prices/bad mortgages issue... but we as a country will be fine... Times like these call for creativity and perseverance and flexibility... things will be better soon i believe...

I just ordered my heat press this week and it should get to me by the end of this week.

I should not have opened this post! I am now officially freaking out!

What do you mean recession?! What do you mean it is affecting the apparal industry?!

I went from being jazzed about my heat press to wanting to call mastercard and canceling my order!

I gotta get out of this post before I lose another night of sleep!

In closing... I am a firm believer that the power within us all comes from the greatest power of all... God. Pray to proper my friend and you will be delivered... God Bless.....

Remember this.. when the economy is bad people need to advertise there businesses. tee shirts are a form of advertising. Use this as a selling point if you go after promotional business. and by the way you guys need to get busy as I sell to you all.... I pretty much stopped doing tees...

Last couple of months were the highest sale points of the year, except May was about only about 50% of the sales of March and April. I thought May was tough because kids were getting ready to get out of school, parents are planning vacations, Memorial day weekend, Mothers day, was all in that month of May. I am hoping June is a better month....

Either way, it's been slow, but the last couple of months, believe it or not we were wishing it would slow down a bit so we can concentrate on some "secret" projects of ours lol.

For people to reference and compare...We are a medium/large size shop.

Overall, consumer confidence is down. A gignormous electronic part distributor/manufacturer next door has cut hours for about 50 employees (they used to all leave at 6pm, now they are mostly all gone by 3:30-4pm).

well, you guys are americans, but i'm Malaysian (Asian) and even our economy here has taken a hit. but i guess we have to take the good and the bad that goes with having your own business. so far, i've been able to keep my company above water and i'll hope i'll still be around when the good times come rolling again!

I was driving a huge ford f350 diesel until last weekend when I traded it in for a scion xb that cost me only 40 bucks to fill and gets 35mpg. big change but the little bugger works great for deliveries

I just can't put my finger on the pulse of this year's month to month business cycles. March was one of our best March's. April was average, May was our best month-EVER- period! This month is starting SLOW.
Can't predict sales volume from month to month. Gotta go hard on marketing and promotion I guess- be creative and pray! Maybe we'll make some ground up later on in the month.
