I am placing a sports graphic of approx 8" in length on the back of a polo shirt...I'm stuck on where is best to place image...
The polo shirts im using have a circular stitch pattern running under the neck from the shoulders which i find is present on lots of polo shirts so i'm assuming you wouldn't place the image in the same place as maybe on the back of a t shirt.
Re: Where do i place my image on the back of shirt!
hmmm. Hey Dave, 8' in length for an image on a polo shirt is pretty big in my opinion. I guess I'm used to seeing smaller logos on the front left chest instead, rather than on the backside. If I were to put one on the back of a polo, however, I'd probably put it right under the neck/collar line, but adjust it by half the size.
Don't forget to post some pics up. I'm curious to know what the outcome will look like.
Re: Where do i place my image on the back of shirt!
mmm...thanks for the input. maybe it might not look so good on the back of a polo shirt then. If i reduced it to maybe 6" and and keep the logo i was going to use on the left breast and put this larger image under the buttons on the front this might work better?
I'm not sure as i wanted to use a polo shirt more than a t shirt but if it doesnt work using a large grpahic on a polo then i will revert to a t shirt
Re: Where do i place my image on the back of shirt!
When I stitch on the back of Hoodies, I go down 8" from the neckline. That way it is still seen under the hood. This 8" seems to be the same length as the hair of many young women. They like to have their designs seen on their backs without moving their hair. If I know the design is for a man or short haired woman (and not on a hoodie), I go down 5"-6" from the neckline. The top of the design is 5" from the neckline, depending on the height of your design; you don't want to go too low on the back.
Hope this helps.
Re: Where do i place my image on the back of shirt!
I usually go down about 4 1/2 to 5 /12 inches depending on the size of the shirt..
and No i dont think 8 inches is too big for a polo.. .. if you put a tiny design on the back it looks tiny.. especially on like size xl
Re: Where do i place my image on the back of shirt!
The best rule of thumb is to try and find someone that is close to the same size as the shirt you are doing and have him/her put it on. Then mock place it to the position that you think looks best. Of course this is not always possible, especially with a 3XL and above. I have also gone into the stores at the mall with a small tape measure and done some measuring. Most of the time, they fall in line with this chart - Screenprinting and Digital Garment Printing University.

P.S. The half round circle on the back of the polo is called the sweat patch. Not sure what it does (other then what the name says it does), but I learned this at an open house for Bodek & Rhodes.
