Ok I want to print reciepts and invoices but dont want to use the ink that I use for shirts. So logic says a second printer but which one. This will be all this printer is for invoices and reciepts.
So any input on which printer i could use without having to pay a ton on ink or for the printer would be very helpful.
I guess you could use the cheapest inkjet you can find if it's only going to be used for invoice printing. you can check out the price of ink refills before you buy, for each printer. Some printers you can buy refill kits which saves you money.
Myself I use a Color Laser printer for all my office printing (invoices, quotes, etc...) and also use the same printer for doing laser transfers for t-shirts. The printer is a bit more starting out but the toner lasts alot longer than ink and the cost per print is way less. Also you don't have to worry about clogging issues.

Good advice, what printer do you use? also what transfer paper? I'm curious about this, I have been considering this move myself. Also, how is the fading with the transfers? THANKS ..... JB
For invoices I highly recommend laser printer, the black and whites one. They are pretty cheap and the toner last long.
We bought a Samsung LM something two years ago for my son who is in college. Last week he came back home for vacations, and last night he was still printing off the toner cartridge that came with the printer.

I am using a Konica Minolta Magicolor 2400 laser printer. Okidata has several printers that are popular also. I have been using the Konica for a few years now and have not had any fading issues with the transfers. The paper I'm using is from JBL Graphics called Spectra Bright. I will be switching to another paper soon though as I can't get the Spectra Bright in Canada anymore. I will be trying out a Paropy paper from Joto Paper & Duracotton KM paper from Autoart. Hopefully these will be good also. The printer costs somewhere around $300 - $350 when I bought it a few years back. I do alot of personalized calendars and was using an Epson inkjet. The calendar photos were good but it took a long time to print with the Epson if you had a bunch to do. Now, with the Konica the prints fly out & the photo quality is the same or better.
I think the OKI 3400 printer is around the same price and has good reviews from what I have read.

I bought an used Tektronix 740 for 100 dollars.
It print really nice, I print transparencies, invoices,
and it print nice colors too.
For transfers I use Image Clip.
When I get it right (sometimes I don't, one of the reason I stopped paying attention to it ) they fade little. I printed two t-shirts to my boss, like a year ago, and the other day he said the design held very well. He is my boss, so it has to be true
Thanks everyone very helpful. I think I might try and sell some more shirts and get me one of those that I could do transfers with aswell.. Doesnt hurt to have a second option available incase some thing happens.
Is there a specific toner or brand printer that you would need for transfers or would any color laser printer work?
as far as I know, none of the Laser printer manufacturers recommend using t-shirt transfer paper in their printers. But, having said that, various companies have developed transfer papers to work well with certain laser printers. Not all transfer papers will work in every printer, only the ones that they were made/tested on.
The best thing to do is go to an imprint trade show as these guys are usually there with the printers & papers.
There is also info online if you did a google search on laser printer transfers, etc....
