If you don't want to produce your own shirts, the standard approach would be to license your original character drawings. As an artist, you probably will want to have some control over how your artwork is used.
There are licensing forms online, or in my case I have the book "Business and Legal Forms for Fine Artists," by Tad Crawford. There are options to consider related to how your artwork is used, royalty payments, and so on. You might search for other threads related to licensing in this forum as well.
As for whom to license to, it depends on who your work will appeal to. Are there any t-shirt brands that you admire, and make and sell shirts with similar designs?
