Default necktags

does anyone know a good effective means of removing neck tags diy style. Some people say you can just cut them out yourself but that seems to leave a small piece of the tag still in there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Try a seam ripper, you can get them from fabric stores.

Seam ripper is good if you don't mind the sewing. I know on the anvil and gildan that we mostly use, the entire tag can be removed if you are careful about how you cut the tag.

I use scissors and trim as close to the stitching as possible, basically right on the thread, without cutting it. It's a bit hard at first, but after you do a couple of shirts, it gets easier and much quicker.

Then, after cutting the majority of the tag away in this manner, catch the end of the remaining tag with your finger (fingernails, tweezers, whatever you have) and pull it right out. Quick and easy like.

Actually, I don't use it to rip out the seam. I use it the same way you use scissors. The U shape is razor sharp so its one slice and you are done. You are able to get a closer cut on the label than with scissors. It's so close, you can't see the rest of the label that is left unless you are really looking for it.

This is exactly what I do. I have found that it's easiest to do on Gildan shirts.

Oh, ok. I see what you are doing. Nice solution. We are actually taking the entire tag out though. Once you trim by the seam, there isn't anything to hold that excess piece of tag in the neckline and it just comes out with a little pull. If we ever go to the woven tags, I'll get a seam ripper and a sewing machine. Luckily, I already know how to sew.

If you are going to use a seam ripper to unpick labels, the correct way is to use the ripper to nick the lockstich on the back of the shirt at either end of the label, then pull on the thread, this will open the lockstich and open the seam so that the label may be pulled out. On some T's ( jerzees, starworld etc) the label is sewn again within the necktape and will require to be cut.
