Hi everyone,
I am new to this whole experience. I have alot of ideas on what I want my t-shirts to have.
1. Should I silkscreen my t-shirts or send them to a company that silkscreens?
2. Is it hard to learn how to silkscreen?
3. Can you use different font's or clipart on t-shirt and sell them legally?
My goal is to have my own line of t-shirts, I can see this being very profitable.
I know these questions are on this forum I just can't locate them. Please forgive me and thank you for all your help.
Hey nikki,
Well personally I outsource, since I dont have the money, time or experience in silkscreening.
I thought it would be the best way, and was planning on just buying my own system, but now that I look at it, its just to hard for me being 18-and a job that sucks.
So We just take my designs to local shops, and even to places out of state.
As for the legal part, I'm pretty sure that fonts on your computer are royalty free, along with some clipart. But you'll learn that making your own stuff isn't to bad.

Printing yourself means start up funds and learning curve. Can be done, others have done it and this forum is a great asset to a screenprinter, new or experienced. Do you have the funds, or do you want debt to get the funds, is the better question to ask yourself. Some folks outsource bc they want to focus on design and the all important Marketing. No shirt sales without customers.

The only way to know if the fonts or clip art you are looking at is royalty free is to read the terms and conditions on the site or software. I happen to know a good link for you, brand new thread on cheap royalty free clipart. Check this thread out on software that gives you one year free subscription to clipart.com. Costs $9.98. Folks generally toss the cd that comes with it, and just log onto the site. Here you go:
Hi yall,
Thanks! this is great.
-So what you are saying in iclipart.com I can use the clipart and put it on t-shirts and sell them?
If I'm understanding that correctly
-Second, is it legal to put my business name on the shirt if I use software like iclipart?
-Last but not least, I have about 3 drawings do I need to get those branded? (a little confused) How do I go about doing this?
Plus I think I am going to outsource also. Thank you for all your help.

The software comes with 1 yr to clipart.com, not iclipart.com. Someone posted the terms of use for clipart.com and it is royalty free (meaning you are allowed to use it in your designs and sell the shirts.)

Yes, it is with clipart.com. It may be for iclipart.com, too, but we didn't look over the terms of use for iclipart.com.
A side note is the terms of use said you can't modify the design and try to copyright it yourself.

Do you mean copyright? Copyright is a very big topic on the forum. If you do a search on copyright, you will find alot of info regarding it. You can copyright more than one image at a time, as a collection or book, I think that is what it is called. You will have to do the research. There is also a link to the copyright office at the lower left corner of this website.
