Retail price, Intl market and currency conversion I have had a bit of a headache trying to decide what retail price to set my brand at and was told recently by a store owner that they usually expect to mark up 100%. At this point in time I have set up an online store but hope to get on the racks of a few stores in the coming months. After a lot of research online and in stores I am still a little unsure. I was back in Australia for a month recently and T-shirts of any noteworthy brand or even newbies, besides generic JayJays or the like were $40Aus and up. Golf Punk was $55 and I saw an Affliction T for $110! Now if you go online and check out prices in U.S. dollars for brands like Obey, 10 Deep, Scifen etc. they are around $30 U.S. which is 31.77Aus at the mo.
The Australian dollar has gone from a low of 70c Mar06 to now 94.4c and rising to the U.S. as Canada is almost on par now but I have a book/Novel in my hand and on the back it says 13.95 US/17.50 CANADA (Please excuse all the figures etc. just trying to make my point) now that doesn`t reflect the currency at this point in time.
I have shopped in the U.S. and Canada thanks to cruise ship work and soon realized they add the tax at the checkout , (twice added in Canada PST GST) and not on the advertised price which can be deceiving. In Australia it is factored in to the price so if the tag says $50 that`s the price at checkout. Now my website is a .com not a .com.au so I have a dilemma as to the sale price and am not in the U.S. so won`t be adding tax. Anyways has anybody got any thoughts or a solution to this problem?
