Default T-Shirt Sizes

What would be the most popular t-shirt sizes sold in the U.S.? I saw thread asking the same question but it was dated in 2005, and let's face it America has gotten a tad bit chubbier. I am wanting to sell to athletes and the younger generation since most older adults don't have the want to dress themselves in what I want to design. So that may give rise to opinions rather than statistics since you could argue teenagers can be quite skinny and athletes huge, but muscular.

I don't know, I've seen some pretty bulky athletes - muscular with a little chub. I would like to see more knowledgable answers to this question, because so far I'm going with target market observations.

Athletes and the younger generation like tighter fitting clothes. Thats one reason American Apparel and UnderArmour are so popular. So I would say Medium and Large would be your most popular sizes.

It really hasn't changed much since 2005. The media was still reporting the same "everyone is overweight" stories back then

Check the sizing related topics for a nice graph that shows the popular t-shirt sizes:

I would say smalls and mediums. when i first started i made the mistake of buying a lot of larges and extra larges. I sold out of mediums and smalls and was stuck with a ton of bigger tees. people like tighter shirts. even though america is chubier the athletes and younger people try to keep their body thin and show off by wearing tight shirts. especially tight around the arms. also athletes like shorter sleeves

depends on demographic.

american apparel and alternative apparel tend to sell more M, then L and xl and sare about same.

Those companies sell a fitted, tighter shirt..

If your going urban or athletic, its going to be xl, xxl, then l, then xxxl, something like that.

I sell most in L, then Xl and M about same.
