I've noticed while looking for sci fi t shirts on ebay or cafe press that there are a lot of shirts that have logos from movies or tv shows. I'm curious is this legal because there seem to be a lot of them. Aren't these copyrighted material?

If they hold a licence from the copyright holder then it's probably legal. However this is more likely they don't hold any licence are doing it illegally. Given the huge number of items on eBay and Cafe Press, loads of copyrighted material gets sold because there are only so many people checking these things. However they do check so there is always the risk of getting caught, a risk the people selling are willing to take.
