For my business, since I am a start-up, what would be the best option. I have to outsource my printing and find a supplier for my shirts. What I have a question about is HOW I sell the shirts. I had wanted to do more of a customization type of thing. Clients could pick a design from a series of things already created and choose their color of shirt, or just tell me what it is they want and I would design it special, obviously for a price. I think my clients would appreciate being able to design their own but would also like to pick and choose what they want. Or should I just print a bunch with several designs and hope they sell. So question is which is better, have a larger lead time because things are made to order or a larger cost in inventory because it is shipped to order?

The answer may be as broad as t-shirt designs are.
I think you should decide which one you want to do, if you are a talented artist, and have a lot of cool ideas, then just sell them.
But if you just want to pick up orders from customers, then so it be.
