Default Can basic public school names be used on merchandise without permission?

I'm sure someone has answered this before but I can't seem to find it. I am looking at printing some garments with local school names. I am I correct that public school names can be used. "Springfield Football" something generic like that. Basic name with tails. Any info is appreciated.

Since most schools are named after public domain people/things anyway (dead presidents, cities, etc.), In most situations I think you would be fine.

I think you should consult a trademark atty. I believe that some schools do trademark their names.

Keep in mind too the original poster isn't talking about "UCLA School of Medicine", he is talking about Springfield School. There has to be, what, a gazillion Springfield Schools in the country. You think they all got permission to use the name from the first school?

If only one school (or anyone else for that matter) has trademarked "Springfield Football" you could very well be sued. I'm just saying that if you don't know for sure, then you are taking that chance.

Best thing to do is contact the school...tell them your intentions...and try to work out something for both your benefit....we did...and it payed off big time...we now do all the school uniforms and apparel...one phone call and meeting turned into a 600% jump in our sales.....good luck
