Default Professional VS the personal touch

I dont really know how to say this, so i hope you can understand it

Do you think its a better idea to keep your business very professional, or give it a kind of personal touch, i.e. lots of interaction with your customers etc.

I am thinking of adding a forum to my store, so people can ask questions before and after they buy, so they can suggest ideas and other things, so i would be interacting with my customer and potential customers in public. It wouldnt be for customer service/support (e.g. "where is my t-shirt it hasnt arrived yet" kind of stuff).

I am sort of reluctant to do so, because it could have a negative impact, e.g. an annoyed customer going on and writing abuse. (the customer is not always right!!!)

I do have myspace and facebook, but customers never really interacted with me in that way.

Also how professional is having a forum like this? There are not many companies which have an official forum for such things, i dont want to give the impression that my store is unprofessional or anything like that. However i do know that some businesses such as my hosting company has official forums.

Do you have one? What do you think about this?

Default Re: Professional VS the personal touch

we only have the good ole standard MySpace page...like you, no one really uses it, but people still look at it.

I don't know if people would use a forum any more than they would use your Facebook or Myspace page. I'm completely for adding a personal touch, but I'm not sure if this will accomplish what you're after.

Maybe on those pages you can post candid pictures of people printing, your press(s), etc so they can "feel" like they're a part of it. Or you could use those sites to send out sale coupons...that's what we do. It seems to work pretty well.

Its just so people would be able to ask things, and see we answer questions, and how we answer them; Offer discount coupons in the forum, and have a general type of forum to create a kind of community. People could submit ideas and photo's etc.

Its better than myspace/facebook in that it seems more part of your company, if you get what i mean.

I would never do this! only because i am completly online in terms of retail, i wouldnt want people to see my setup, saying it is not tidy is an understatement. It is not much to look at, a heat press and lots of t-shirts.

I actually had this brainwave last month, i submitted to some sites and to my suprise someone used a coupon (yes only 1) but 1 is better than 0. I only think 1 site actually published my coupon, its quite hard to give away things!!
