I might have put this in the wrong section of the forum, so I apologize for that, if I did.
QUESTION?

A customer wants a pirate and the words tampa bay, on Tshirts is this a violation of copyright laws or is it okay to do this. I really dont know so I really need advice before I proceed.

Correction: A pirate image with the words Tampa Bay

if you do it in an original style its ok, after all nobody owns the word pirate or the name of Tampa Bay, at least im assuming its in the public domain. just dont copy anything.

That's my understanding too, but I'm a newbie. If you go to their website you may be able to find a link to their copyright/ trademark symbols, etc. I know on my college website you can see a section on what is trademarked or copyrighted material for the school.

NFL teams are a little different when it comes to trademarking laws etc.. the teams are more like celebrities (and in a broader spectrum too) in that anything that can be construed as relating too the NFL team can be pursued legally... it's a weird sort of "loophole"... (this isn't legal advice) but you should be ok as long as the words buccaneers isn't anywhere and the font used doesn't look anything like the actual Tampa Bay logo... (for example don't put the pirate on a flag etc) also you have to watch out for the Baseball team... don't forget that all major sports are inf act legal monopolies and can pursue anyone that they feel threatens the validity of their product...I would certainly tell you if you're talking about a significant quantity of shirts that you ask a lawyer...
