Default Limited Edition Apperal ?

I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on limited edition apperal. Do you guys think it works ? people see there is only say 256 hoodies so they buy one. Do you think it increases sales ? and do you think you should wait until your semi-well known to do this or try it right from the beginning?

I guess it's all relative, but 256 pieces seems high to me. I would think of limited editions as something in the 120 piece range or lower. Unless of course you regularly sell more than 256 items with the same design.

To me, for limited editions to work:

1. The design should be noticeably different (unique) than your other designs.

2. Shouldn't remain on your website for an extended period of time, even if they don't sell out.

3. Sold out designs should still be shown on your site so visitors can see what they missed and jump on your current limited edition offering.

I wonder if Limited Editions should sell for more than your other designs?

it's a great idea to launch a limited edition shirt but perhaps if you try it since the beginning, people wouldn't really notice the difference between your regular and limited edition shirts.

there's a different appeal if your shirts are already popular and you launch limited editions..

This is something i was looking at, i would do maybe between 100-200 items, same design but maybe different colour t-shirts.
Each item would have a heatpressed label in it stating which number it was and how many were produced, these labels can't be removed and printing them myself means 100 would be easy to number. Each design would have a different label.
The shirt i have done has a design on the front chest and a smaller design bottom centre back with the limited edition number on it.
I might also include say a dogtag with the t-shirts details on and number.

It has to be different to be worth the extra £5-£10 and the extra time to produce. I would do a limited edition range along side my regular t-shirts.

My johnny cupcakes Tee doesn't have a number showing whch it is in the run of limited editions....

Also if you are getting say a 4 or 5 colour print made the screen prices will be alot so a run of say 100 shirts wouldn't be enough to make a substantial profit (suppose it is all relative to design set up costs). So i would personally make the limited editions runs bigger. All depends upon demand.....make enough to make money but not too many to loose customer desire

I mean i am not an expert but Johnny cupcakes had made millions so i presume he has sold millins of shirts but he has not used millions of designs.
