I have a decent logo and company name but I do not know it just doesn;t have that ring I am looking for like the top surf companies. I was so happy about it like 1 month ago but recently I have been thinking I can do better. So I have been thinking and I am back to the drawing board to come up with a great name and logo. I think when you find the right company ame and logo you should be able to feel it. I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Especially since I was getting close to the trademark process.
yes actually that has happened to me hehe, as I am in th process of figuring out whether to change my business name. Mine is because when I first started it was strictly geared towards kids clothing, now that I have my hm1 and have been doing alot of contract printing the name just doesnt fit with what I am doing so I am considering changing it. First I have to find out how hard it is to do.
My advice would be to definately be sure of your business name before filing everything as I think it is going to more difficult for me now that I have been running my business under the name for almost 2 years.

Never ever ever second guess yourself. Be it. Know it. Walk it. Talk it.
Change it if you feel it is the "right" thing to do in your own opinion. But just know there are hundreads of sucessful companies out there with very obscure and weird names that dont seem so weird because they worked hard to make it a house hold name that in this day and age means something.
Gosh, YES! I wouldn't call it second-guessing, it's more like "evolving".
I found my problem was that I wanted to do absolutely everything myself. I'm finally letting go of that idea. While I create logos for people all of the time, I am now turning to an artist I sometimes use to create one for me. I need a fresh perspective. My logo was ok, but it just didn't feel right.
Go for it. Find something you like before taking that next step.
I understand exactly what you're going through. I wouldn't call it "second-guessing", though, more like "re-evaluating".
I don't see anything wrong with either, though.
When I first started the idea of a clothing company, I had a different name and a different logo, but the same concept.
At first I was REALLY excited about all of it. But the more I learned about marketing and the business aspects of everything, I realized that my company name and logo probably wouldn't work for what I wanted to achieve.
I don't think there's anything wrong with going back to the drawing board. As you learn more, your perspective changes. And what you once thought was great, you may realize that it probably isn't so great after all.
The failure rate for business startups is extremely high. Give yourself the best opportunity for success you can. If that means scrapping everything and going back to square one, I say go for it.
Learn all you can, and go back at it with a renewed sense of purpose and understanding.
I'm going through the same thing as we speak. I was 100% sure about my name and logo and now I'm not sure at all. I think its a good thing that we are reevaluating but I am trying to make sure that I am not 2nd guessing myself. Talk to some of the people you had previously discussed the idea with and see what they think. That worked for me, it made me realize that I really should keep my name and I'm going to re-do my logo.
The forum can also be a great place to run ideas...the input and support is invaluable
I go through it all the time. I always have people ask me what SDM stands for and I always tell them Scott Dean Mitchell and if they ask who it is I always tell them my brother. I kinda think sometimes that maybe going that route was not the right way to go. But you know what I love the way it sounds and it has meaning for me!

Surfwear, I feel for you. I spent 4 months looking for the "right fit". After exhaustive measures to come up with the right one, I ordered Name Razor and hit a home run the first night. Over two years later, I still love it, I relate to it, and it hits the "sweet spot" I was looking for in a name. If I went with the first one I loved (which was one of 10 more to follow after I fell "out of love" with it) I wouldn't be as happy as I am today.
And YES, as soon as I found it, I KNEW it. I knew what I was looking for, I just couldn't find "it". I did with Name Razor. I ordered Biz cards and am still happy 2 yrs later.
Best wishes to you, finding something that you relate to can be a hassle. Been there, Name Razor set me free. PS: I know it may not work for you, so spend your money wisely. But I was desperate after 4 months of 'free' brainstorming. After I bought it, I loved the product. If you can do it for free, that's great, but I couldn't, and all it took was $15 to settle that part "perfectly".
Anyway, if you use it and it works, will you let me know how it worked out? (And if you use it and it stinks, forget my user id)

Reason: redundant
Second quessing, evolving, re-evaluatiing or whatever else you call it I've done it all. I think when you are just starting out its crucial. I am in the process of a name change. After talking to friends and family I found that my name was hard to remember and was often mistaken for a small European country, not at all what I intended. There are alot of good threads in this forum that are very helpful.
