Default Who on this messageboard has actually made it big?

Looks like everyone currently posting is an aspiring tshirt designer or struggling to make it big.

however, who has actually made it big? im sure all the big players dont post on this forum anymore but any of the big guys USED to post or lurk in these forums? I noticed yellowman (Tattoo shirts by the worlds top tattoo artists, athletic fabric tattoo clothing, underwear, t shirts, wearable art) posted here a while back and has become somewhat successful... but what of the LRG types, etc.?

I would imagine that the ones that have "made it big" are too busy to frequent these forums anymore. I don't know of any personally, but I'm relatively new here myself.

I do, however, plan to be one of those that makes it big...or medium at least.

In our own customer base we have many hundreds of successful decorators: T-shirts, Gifts (inkjet sublimation) and Awards (laser sublimation). There are also many on this forum.

For most, economic success is is defined by reaching their economic goals and progressing on their new goals.

One fact is that the most successful talk the least (about money). Not only would it be in poor taste but the additional questions based on "how" would never stop.

As an example, Monday, one of my awards customers proudly shared the news that he would pass the 500K mark this year. I was very happy for him and we swapped some fun "shop talk". Trust me, had I still been a retailer he wouldn't have said a word.

a friend of mine, who actually introduce me to this site is earning a good living off of heat transfers. he might not be a big clothing company or make his own stuff, but he prints for people and lives good.i guess that counts as succesful but not big.

Indeed. Big and successfull are not necessarily the same thing and at the same time once you're making it big you'll be too busy trying to stay big month after month to actually have time to come on here and share your secrets with people.

My "soon to be" claim to fame is designing for a retail company that caters to the mixed martial arts fans. They sponsor a popular UFC fighter, and have had their banner displayed in the cage before his fight, and their logo on the fighters shorts. The event was shown nationally on Spike T.V. a few months ago. Hopefully the fighter will get some camera time wearing one of the new shirts that I will be delivering in the next few weeks. It is an Affliction..ish style design on AA jerseys and long sleeve thermals. I've been squeeking by so far, but hopefully this will be one of the projects that I am working on that will help me gain some footing in the industry.
*crosses fingers

A new member here designs the Margaritaville t-shirts for Jimmy Buffet. I ran across one of her first posts the other day.

there are many that are very successful and still post here. They are here often, and offer a wealth of information. Offering their insight, and experience to those of us still trying to learn. Sometimes they dont get here daily, but they also have businesses to run. There are times I dont even get here for days and days. ......and we are still growing.

For them and all we have I am truly thankful!

Thanks for your insight post Robin.

Has anyone noticed some of the sponsors here that frequent the board?

Havent been on here long but, I started 12 years ago working for an idiot. After 6 years I took over his company which was going under. We now have 3 autos, 20 or so employees and do work all over the US. Or bread and butter are our collegiate designs. We just finish doing a 15000 shirt, 30000 impressions run in under 3 days along with doing other jobs. Right now we are gearing up for bowl season.

It really depends on what "make it big" means. I originally just wanted to pay my car payment and now that's become my mortgage payment.

My next goal is to replace my income from my job but even at that point I won't feel like I've made it because I'll have a new goal.

It is kind of like winning the lottery. You wont get left alone for a minute or two. You also now have a big business to run so time on forums is limitted. Success for me is defined by how well I feel with where I am in life and how much time I have to enjoy my life. Work Sucks but at the same time if you love your work you will not work a day in your life.

I was going to ask if anyone thought a 100k a year is successful. I think SLG could answer that question.
SLG did you get permission to reprint the college LOGO's? Great Site!
