Hey guys I'm totally new to the forum and have spent a little time researching to answer some of my own questions. The problem I'm faced with is that I want to try to start a clothing line by silk screening my shirts first just starting out. (I just want to do t-shirts starting out). My questions to you guys are as follows...

1. Can you start a clothing line by silk screening? ( is this a common thing )

2. How would a clothing line business plan differ from a silk screening shop business plan?

any advice at all on starting my own label by silk screening would be a huge help!! I also just want to say that this site has been a huge help and thank you everyone!

1. 90% of the clothing lines out there use screen printing to produce their t-shirts.

2. learning to print, and the process of printing will be similar, but business planning will be very different
when constructing a business plan for a line you must consider the following: competitive analysis, product design and development, market strategies, strategic branding, management plans, financial components, SEO and web development(if you plan to sell online), wholesale marketing (if you plan on selling wholesale)

I would recommend starting out with a business plan to sell the shirts and plan on having a professional screen printer do your shirts at first. It's pretty cheap to get them done. Then do some research and attend an ISS show and check out equipment. It's a good way to get started without a significant investment. The biggest trick is marketing your t-shirts amongst the other 100,000 t-shirt vendors. Go for a niche.
