Has anyone here experienced the process of submitting bids through a network such as DemandStar.com in order to get contracts for public school or other state Govt entities? A school teacher friend of ours has suggested that we go for some jobs that might be available for various teams, etc. in the public school system here; in order to bid on anything, we have to register with this network. Thanks for any input you might have
I don't know about this company, but as a rule (one I have never broken) I don't do bids!!!
Think about it, they set all the specs for the job. They are only looking for the cheapest price. If I bid low enought to get the job, I don't make enough money. If I bid my regular price, I don't get the job. I have found the bidding process to be a monumental waste of my time.
I deal with schools in NC all the time with no bid process. Also, most of the time, there is a "preffered vendor" clause in the purchasing rules for government entities. Try to build a raport with some school administrators and go from there.
Good luck

I kinda thought that - my wife used to work in Naval Contracting in the 80's and she has some horror stories. As a matter of fact, I have done some work for individual coaches/teachers and am hoping to get more business by their word of mouth. Thanks for the input!
I also dont do bids.. That being said.. im lucky enuff that for signs at least im the contractor for several local school districts.. If you can get your foot in the door city and school jobs can be a good source of continual income.. A couple things to remember is that you have to have the capitol usually to do the jobs befoer getting paid.. as most that i know of work with a purchase order system and pay either 30 day net or 60 day net.
The city and school district here do not have to send anything out to bid.. if its under 2,000 dollars.. so many times.. we have even broken up orders to be under that amount.
We spent 2 years bigging on goverment contracts for software development and pretty much gave up. Most of the contracts go to rock bottom bidders. We couldn't honestly give a lowball bid and then try to collect more money later on.
