Default questions from a newbie

Question 1: Which transfer paper is the best for printing custom logos and photos to heat press onto a shirt? I have an Espon 1280 set up with bulk delivery artanium ink. I've tried the Alpha green line and most recently Pro World Inc's new paper. Are there any others that transfer well, but don't leave a stiff feeling?

Question 2: When you go to a show, do you take your press and make shirts on the spot, or do you make inventory ahead of time and just sell?

Question 3: How do you get artwork to print with the right colors? I often get a logo or artwork file from potential customers. When I open the file in Photoshop, it is one color. But when I import the same file into Corel to work on it or do layout, then print it with my Epson 1280 and Artanium ink, the colors change. For instance a light rust color recently ended up printing more of a purple color on the finished product than rust.

I really appreciate any comments that you have.

Deb

Hi Deb...

I'm a bit confused.

You mention that you have an Epson 1280 printer with Artanium ink but are looking for a paper that does not have a stiff feel. The artanium ink is a dye sublimation ink which, by nature, does not leave any "hand" and is very soft. The dye becomes part of the fabric. Of course, this would have to be printed on 100% polyster shirts (generally speaking).

When you mention the new paper from Proworld, are you referring to Clearsoft? If so, that is an inkjet heat transfer paper which is not designed to be used with dye sublimation inks. You would want to use pigment based inks for those transfers.

Perhaps this may explain some of the colors issues you are having.

If this is not the case, have you installed an ICC profile for your particular system (assuming it is a dye sublimation system)?

John,

Thank you for your post. You are quite right that I'm using the wrong kind of ink for the transfer paper. .....so off I go to get another printer for pigment ink......

Thanks again!
