I'm from the US living in Colombia and was wondering what the market would be for Spanish text shirts on the web, for a PayPal market.
I state it that way because Colombians have no PayPal, or any other payment options that would be useful to me, so don't really consider them customers.
It's a little more work for me because I not only would have to translate them, sort of, but then have my wife wife or her daughter check it for me, because mi Espaņol es moy poquito.
I have one or two on my site already, but no sales so far.
I'd say it's a good idea, especially where I live (Midland, Texas) about 35% Mexican population. Maybe link your site to some Mexican sites. I know when I was looking at transfers there were some in Spanish. Have you seen those?
I go to Cartagena twice a year on vacation. What i have observed:
Not a whole lot of call for screenprinting down there.Guess its just too expensive. What i see done for businesses is very rudimentary.I.E. business name only.
Most of the tourist stuff is done offshore in Miami or N.Y. and imported.Even very beautiful prints are cheap.$6-7 retail. Most Colombians dont have a credit card, or a bank account.Average monthly wage is about $160 a month.
Doesnt leave a lot of buying power for luxury items. Most of the printed T's i see the locals wearing are over runs from the states that they can buy for a buck or two.
Like i say, i'm just a tourist, you live there.Just my observations.
OOppss.Just re-read your post. Not working Colombia mkt.My buddy lives in Cartagena.Customs is a bear down there as you can imagine. Most things he wants from here, he orders, i take to him.You can solve this problem, prolly ok.
Sounds like a niche market if you can come up with sayings or designs particular to Colombian culture. There isn't probably a whole lot of that out there and I'm sure they would like to have something that reminds them of their homeland/culture.
from here, in Europe, the Spanish, french, german, english etc... shirts are everywhere. Huge market and the price is about 20 Eu. (about $30) for something decent. The hip stores are always packed and people buy and speak/understand multiple languages.... so such text shirts are ok to sell here etc.,
Why Colombia is such a low income in this day and age is a crime...who is to blame? terrible....
-----------------------
footnote: EC stands European Community, sort of like the United States (various states/countries), the Euro (dollar) is the EC currency that is worth about $ 1.50 USD. Minimum wage in the low end countries is about the same as USA...

I'm doing Hispanic themed tees. I've been toying with the idea for a couple of years and finally decided to go the cafepress route, just to see if there was a demand for such tees. Started my site,Siesta Tees, a year ago and have done ok. Keep in mind my only pr/marketing is word of mouth and any free marketing ideas I can come up with, so I think I've done pretty good. Good enough to start the process of trying to get my tees in retail stores in South Texas. This was a good niche in the market, since not all Hispanics are in to the fancy cars jumping up and down or the homies thing. Our tees are phrases with both english and spanish text, also know as spanglish. I say go for it and good luck!

I checked your site, nice phrases! There is a company in Califas that has added some nice designs to similiar sayings and their t-shirts look really good. Might be something you could think about. BTW where in TX are you. Baytown here.
