getting linked on shirt.woot for a day...need suggestions/help!
Hey guys,
I got an e-mail from one of the cats at shirt.woot and I'm going to be one of the small sidebar text links on Monday, for Monday only...so I've got to make it count. I'm going to design a special landing page for the link, and I want your suggestions.
I'm thinking:
1. special coupon for shirt.wooters (15% off is what I'm thinking at the moment, with like a one week limit - do you think I should make it a deeper discount, since shirt.wooters are used to $10 shirts?)
2. a few images of various shirts, with links
3. a brief introduction - and say stuff like, check out my blog for latest news, learn more about me here, CHECK OUT OUR T-SHIRTS HERE
Also, the text link has to be short; the guy from shirt.woot was thinking "hi I'm David Murray from SEIBEI...put a monster in your closet!", but I think we can do better.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated; this is a great one-shot opportunity so I wanna capitalize on it as much as possible.

I'm glad you're getting linked there! Awesome.
The coupon code is the main thing- the one factor that unites all Wooters is that they are ridiculously cheap. I think 15% off is pretty good, but you could also make it a better deal than that (20%?) to buy two shirts and I think a lot of people would jump at it. On the entry page, highlight the deal (or deals) and a few best sellers, and I think you'll be in excellent shape.
Definitely put the 15% off thing in the text link, too, if you can- most of those links haven't involved coupon deals lately, so stating that yours is going to save them money will get you more clicks. (Seibei: put a monster in your closet and get 15% off!)

I dont have any ideas but just wanted to say congrats it sounds like your monster designs are doing really well, I know I really like them alot as they are very unique.

MJ is right about Wooters (including myself) being ridiculously cheap. But they will also buy ANYTHING, as long as they perceive it as being cheap (witness the infamous Woot Bag O' Crap.)
Do you have any "closeouts" that you need to get rid of? Now's the time. But I'm guessing you will need to be around a $10 price point to make significant sales. Or offer them as a freebie with the purchase of 1 or 2 regular priced shirts.
Also, since a huge percentage of Wooters have blogs, you might use this to get some links. But they probably won't be relevant links, and you already have a decent PR, so it might not be worth the hassle.
One more thought is to make the discount a weird number -- say 19%. A highway engineer friend of mine told me about a study of a particularly dangerous highway off ramp. The posted speed limit was 15 mph. Average speed on the ramp was about 40 mph, I believe. So they raised the speed limit to 17 mph. The average speed on the ramp dropped dramatically. People tend to look past usual round numbers, so maybe something unusual will prompt some action.

thanks for the love/suggestions, y'all!
There's no way I can sell shirts for $10 (that's not even my wholesale price), but the suggestions with coupon codes are solid. I'll figure something out and hopefully we'll see something good come Monday...

I made a little mark on the calender to visit shirt.woot.com today to see your sidebar. I didn't think that people where really going to complain about the price, but to my surprise there where a few people that thought 25% wasn't good enough. These people are refusing to pay over $10 for a shirt! It's amazing to me.
Anyway, it looks like you made some sales and congrats.

All of the complaints I saw were before the link was updated to David's special Shirt.Woot landing page, so they didn't know they could get 25% off. But yeah, refusing to pay over $10... that's pretty worrisome!

Congrats David. I saw you linked there when I was checking out shirt.woot.com the other day.
I thought your landing page looked great!
Any insight on how the sales/traffic increased for that day?
t-shirtforums was linked a while back, but we don't really have anything to "sell", so it's hard to gauge the effectiveness of it as an "ad" (if they ever do start offering paid ads).
Re: getting linked on shirt.woot for a day...need suggestions/help!
the link went well enough - huge boost in traffic, decent boost in sales. Unfortunately, I can't sell my shirts for as low a price as most shirt.wooters would like, but hey, no problem. Overall, I'm thankful they put the link up there.
