Default Starting as a young with a low budget

Hi all,

Just a big question that im struggling with, maybe what i want to do is hopeless at this point, but well, i want to make sure.

Im a 16-year old boy/guy from the Netherlands, still in school and working in a supermarket to get some money to buy some stuff. Since i´m 12 years old I use Photoshop on almost a daily basis, and since a couple of years I involved in other programs (Illustrator etc.).

The point is: I want to start a small brand, with a webshop (I can make the site myself, so that´s not a problem) where I can sell t-shirts and hoodies (also all over print) but my budget is like 200/300 euros.
I´m not really willing to sell my stuff at those printing shop sites, because they take a whole bunch of your money and I like to keep things for my own.

Anybody have some tips on how about to start and if it´s even possible
?

You're not really in a position to be that picky: other than taking most of the money, they also do most of the work, and make it possible to sell a product without having the budget to afford it yourself. They may not be the right solution for you, but you need to consider the good and not just the bad in order to make that decision.

Fred has some good ideas on how you could do it on your own (which I prefer too, so I understand where you're coming from). One other option is to pay a printer to print one of your designs for you, sell that, re-invest the profits into a larger run, etc. until you have enough money to afford to do it on your own (if that's what you want to do - you may be happy to have someone else do the printing, and you do all the other work involved).

200-300 euros would be enough to get a small print run done, but then you'd have to be able to sell it without money to advertise it.

I know this is a very late reply, but i got some private problems and then I totally forgot about it. Right now I've made some profits with a couple of things, so my budget is now around 400 euros.

I'm willing to invest it in some printing stuff, but don't really know where to start. Do I look for heat press? Do I look for other methods?

Mindstate.....

Talk to Josh from imprintables......Buy a heat press from him & have him send you a few "free" samples (transfer sheets). Then buy a epson c88 and you should be well on your way

check out bigcartel.com for selling shirts. I don't use it myself, but someone on these forums recommended it and I think you can list a few shirts for free and you get to keep all the profits.

I think that I am in a similar position as you in terms of age (I'm 18 years old) and a limited budget. Personally, I bought a used heat press to save money and am starting out with only a couple of designs that a got the best feedback on from friends and friends of friends and hopefully expanding from there.

If it was me in that situation, I'd spend about 250-300 euros on a run of shirts from a screenprinter, and about 100-150 euros on collateral (business cards, etc.), market fees, etc. and start selling in the local area. Fold the profits back in until you have enough money to move it up to the next stage.

You don't really need equipment to start a successful business, so rather than wasting money on something you'll soon outgrow, you could pay someone else to do it until you can afford to do it yourself (or you might find you'd rather keep paying someone else to do the printing).
