Hi Guys! Well, I lost my primary job the other day, so I am now "officially" a screen printer. This occurred a little bit ahead of my master plan so when I am not in a complete panic or wallowing in self-pity, I'm attempting to formulate a winning stategy for a successful one-man shop (well, I'm training my wife too).
As I stand here before the abyss, can anyone tell me...Is there light at the end of this tunnel?? I'm networking and promoting as much as I can (altho' I must admit I have alot more time to do it now!!!). If someone - anyone - can just give me a word of solace to get me through those dark moments, I sure would love to hear from you.....Thanks
Okay, that wasn't really very comforting was it? Fact is that we can't know how things are going to turn out for you, but I can say that others here have posted about being in this exact situation (losing their job before they were ready) and they've made it.
There's business there, you have a goal, and you sure have the motivation, so yes, success is within your reach.
I'd take a very good look at your costs so you don't under or over bid on quotes, as at this juncture you can't afford to be losing money through underbidding, and you can't afford to be losing jobs through overbidding. Obviously that's true of any business, but particularly in this situation.
one thing to remember...EVERYONE is a potential customer!
Everywhere I go I try to think of who could use printed apparel...my first big sale was made while I was in a hospital waiting room, to the hospital!! You know how many people work in a hospital???
Business is out there, do not wait for it to come to you!!!

Hey, Gator - It could be far, far worse. You could be a Bulldog! LOL. Best of Luck to you guys.
Stay on top of your game and hustle, hustle, hustle! Make up promotional material and keep trying to sell to everyone you can, friends, relatives ex coworkers. keep at it and never ever give up! If you sell it they will come!
You know somedays I wish my job would give up on me so I could move on to something I really enjoy. Dont make a job of it, make a passion of it and you will do well.
If that doesnt work you can always throw burning T-shirts at the bill collectors when you answer the door
OK - I'm late for this party; At the very least you have a Master Plan; the first step in a successful venture - have faith and never give up on your dreams and you will find your pot of gold!
Perhaps it was meant to happen? What better time to start printing? Now you have no choice but to make it happen, right? You'll see, things will work out for you, even though it may not seem like it at the moment... It may be hard in the beginning, but totally worth it at the end of the day ~ Karolina
- "Find a job you love, and you'll never have to work a day in your life."
Suck it up and get to selling!! This is your chance to get the business jump started. I mean you have nothing but time on your hands so pound the pavement both real and virtual.
If you absolutely love what you're doing - you'll never work another day in your life! I absolutely love graphic design and would do it 24/7 if I didn't have to sleep! My wife complains about my late graphic design nights of 1:00-2:30am - because I have to get up in the morning and go to work
