Thumbs up T-Shirt Trends: Straight no chaser

Is it just me ?
or is there a vast amount of t-shirt brands/sites etc. that look like some of my favourite brands/designs from a few years ago.

I mean, i look at new t-shirt designers/sites in hopes of finding something unique and 9.7/10 times what a encounter are dated ideas.

What are these people thinking ? do they look at the current trend and emulate it ? has no one told them that they need to be ahead of the trend wave or create the trend themselfs ?

Are you the future trend, are you ridding the trend wave now or do you feel you are the Trend Chaser without meaning it?

What makes You or your designer/brand or both, unique and different ?

...just curious how others look at this.

not everyone can be the leader....leaders need followers lol.

trends dont just usually popup from nowhere, (somethimes though, but if you trace back you can find that they maybe just came from a far away land and someone brought it back with them).

people emulate what they think is good. then they can make slight modification of something that is familiar to them and they like to make it better or add their own twist to it, and now its something new(ish). then another does the same and so on and so on, then all of a sudden there is something that is so far from the orginal idea that it is completely new. and everyone says "wow" what a genius... and the cycle can begin again, and this concept can branch off at anytime.

best example of this is music. how musicians are influenced by their idols and usually when pro musicians discloses who influenced them the pieces fall into place about how they got their sound and style. did the Rolling Stones invent rock and roll? or do they emulate what they think good rock music should sound like?

my 2 cents

very good points Darryl.

with the Stones, i think they lived their music (and so do most successful musicians), i know they too were influenced, re-makes etc... but still, what made/makes them unique are the personalities behind the sound.

Your points made me just realize something. I guess when buying off of sites if there is more there that would make me feel something for the shirt ideas because i can feel the person behind them...that would may be change things. But most of the time the bio-text stuff about the product and the people behind it is so much the same lingo-text as other sites. As if they were copy/past type info.

I dont know, may be i'm hard to please but i look for things that jump out at me to make me want it or learn more about it etc.

Yes, i understand the "Trend Wash Down" effect. It has always been that way. Some poor fella on the street does something crazy like spray paint his shirt the next thing you know a "Producer type" steps in and formulates it for the masses and bingo, the airbrush full-out prints trend is born.

So where are the these original trend creators to be ? show me some links peeps.

heck, you guys/gals can even show me some what you may feel are the most "UnderRated" designers/t-brands etc. links would be great.

I'm starving for something unique and different here. ...and so are "Producers" out-there, as in the Music biz.

Web 2.0 design style is essentially 1995 with bells and whistles.

And all the better for it. Given me white space and Ariel or give me death.
