Default Teach me about the quality of shirts

Im new at this shirt thing. I ordered about 5 or 6 t-shirts all in different brands, etc. to see which t-shirt I thought was the best value. Not just some cheap shirt that is going to wash away, or not sell due to its appearance.

Anyway, I went with a Champion shirt...

Heres the question: What exactly does weight of a t-shirt mean? What is the difference between a 5.5 ounce shirt and a 6.1 ounce shirt (and not just .6! ).
How can I read a description of a shirt and know that its a good shirt, weak shirt, etc.?

Ive also heard that weight doesnt mean that much. Ive heard there are other things to look for....

Could someone teach me how to look at a description and know what means what!?

Thanks!

It's all relative

What you consider a "weak" shirt, someone else may consider a quality t-shirt.

You have to narrow down the objective features of a t-shirt that YOU feel make it high quality.

Do you like thicker t-shirts? Lightweight t-shirts? Softer t-shirts? Rougher shirts?

There's another thread here in the forums that explains what the weight of the t-shirt means and all types of t-shirt terms that you might need to know.

But once you know what YOU want in a t-shirt, it will help you find other styles like it.

This should be a good start: T-shirt terms you may need to know before buying

About .6 ounces.

D'oh!

Okay, it's the weight of the fabric, measured in ounces per square yard. So 6.1oz fabric is slightly heavier/thicker than 5.5oz fabric.

You can't. You can look for some signs (ringspun cotton is better quality, 4.3oz is a standard shirt weight for light shirts and often indicates a good quality thin fashion cut shirt), but basically you need to feel a sample.

Not a whole lot.

always look at the stiching too. when you get samples dont be afraid to stretch and pull at the seams to make sure they dont break too easy. thread comes in all various levels of quality too and if the manufacturer uses good thread it wont be easy to break.
