I've been thinking long and hard about pricing for the website, pricing to retailers, pricing to subscribers, and just pricing in general for t-shirts... for whom you ever sell to.
No matter how much I think about it, I always seem to get back to the fact that online commerce is successful because you cut out the middle man and can provide the same product for a better price... because it is online.
Think of this as a ramble if you wish, but online electronic stores became successful because they provided exactly what the bricks and mortar stores could... at a better price due to the cut of overheads.
I have now made a business decision to price my t-shirts and apparel accordingly and selling all my gear exclusively online through my store just like wickedweasel.com.au does... because that is the essence of an online store in my opinion.
I agree Selling your t-shirts online is a very good way to get your product out to a worldwide market without a very large overhead.
There's a lot you can do yourself (and outsource), but I like selling t-shirts to customers directly.
At the same time, if your line is successful, you can reach a large number of potential customers that don't use the internet for shopping (yes, there are LOTS of people out there that still do this). So I wouldn't totally ignore getting your shirts in brick and mortar stores.
Rejoice, Wickedweasel does have a bricks-and-mortar shop in Byron Bay. Agree that their site is an excellent e-commerce model, though. As for their models...mama!
They do have a bricks and mortar store but it is 'their' store... they are very against wholesaling to anyone and don't sell their gear unless it is their website shop or their bricks and mortar store that only stocks their gear and only their gear... no other retailer has access to their range.
And models... yeah I'm thinking about using one for some website shots when I'm up there again as I used to live at Byron and it's an awesome place... and I think using the wicked weasel models or even just one would add some 'hype' to my website at 'Shaka Apparel'
Well ofcourse... I'd have to be a complete nitwit otherwise lol... What got me thinking was a book I read named 'The New Rules of Marketing & PR' that outlines the online world of marketing PR and how it all links together... and how to use all the new resources available to create a following and build your brand online through effective use of consumer interaction... as opposed to the old style of 'interuption' marketing that has been used for so long now... and isn't as effective... especially cost wise and consumer perception wise.

That's true for some online stores, particularly the big ones. But in terms of small online retailers, many, if not most, have been successful because they have been able to market to a niche in ways that aren't possible (or at least aren't cost-effective) outside the internet.

That's exactly right... the whole book explained how traditional methods are expensive and outdated to an extent. It explains how to use 'web 2.0' to attract direct media to your website/service/product.
Topics covered include blogging, news releases, media rooms, social book marking, squidoo, social networks, matching content to buyer personas, podcasting, viral marketing including viral video, etc...
What impressed me though is the fact that I find the net extemely confusing and the book explained to me how it's a web and explains how to integrate all or some of the online media sources to generate repeat visitors to your site... and essentially accomplish your company goals being a certain amount of sales or revenue.
