I know the shipping topic has been done to death and I've read up on alot of the existing discussions to do with it already.
My question is this:
How many of you ship your tees in envelopes rather than packages to keep the shipping costs down?
What are your thoughts on the matter?
I'm from Australia and I really want to sell internationally as well as within Australia and average costs are around $10 internationally for a tshirt or three being sent in a package but this price is halved when you send an envelope.
From a customer standpoint I don't think I would mind having the t-shirts shipped in a large envelope especially if the shipping costs are reasonable. Shipping is the primary reason I don't end up ordering something online a lot of the time.
I use the clear bags to put the garments in and use the plastic non rip poly bags for shipping. It works great, I have never had any problems with this and it makes the weight when shipping alot less.
That's just it, im not sure what kind to use, all I know that is on Australia Posts website, alot of international envelopes cost around $5 to ship from here.
i haven't had the need to ship internationally yet, but stateside i use the bubble-wrap padded bags or the tyvek bags for larger orders. you don't have to buy them from the post office and pay retail - i get mine from Paper Mart Packaging Store along with the plastic inner bags for each shirt.
Which specific "inner clear bags" do you guys use? I see a lot of different ones on Uline, but dont really see any that are t-shirt size/specific. The one's I'm seeing are either much larger or smaller. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Another good site for clear bags is ClearBags.com, they have a large assortment of sizes there. You should be able to find what you need there. I believe the size I use is 9 x 11. I use that size when I have more than one item ( remember I sell baby garments though) and then I use the 6 x 8 for single items. hope this helps. Thier prices are very good also.
For most of my orders, I ship USPS Priority ... we can print labels online and get free delivery confirmation (and pay the postage online as well, if desired). One/two shirts normally costs $4.60 (or up to a l lb). Don't know if you have any equivalent in Australia.
I don't charge quite that much to ship the shirt because my overhead to sell a shirt online is considerably less than when I have to do them direct to customer at a vendor booth.
Also, I, too, use Tyvek bags for the smaller orders (and mostly the free ones available from the post office for priority shipping) and pack each shirt in some type of clear bag.
