If you haven't heard of Woot yet, you probably will hear more about them after next week. Read more about them here...
Once famous for selling one cool tech product a day with witty product descriptions, woot has now jumped into the t-shirt arena with Woot : One Day, One Deal
They will be selling one t-shirt design a day, 5 days a week.
They've already got the audience and a community of over 800,000 members (see how they sold 500 shirts with their logo in a few hours!). With some new designers and a growing t-shirt audience, I think they may just have something there...
As a t-shirt junkie who loves buying t-shirts...I'm a little bit afraid.
A t-shirt woot off :shudder:
Looks like they are going to be selling exclusive and original designs printed on American Apparel t-shirts.
They are going to have a weekly t-shirt contest (The Derby) where users get to submit their own ideas and have them voted on by the community.
I don't know if they are all going to be $10, but if so, this should be interesting. They have a way of taking things that should be more expensive and selling them cheaper (they're a bit like Google that way).
What do you guys think...is threadless in trouble? Will you be there Monday to see what they've got?
This will be huge. It looks like the first run of 500 sold out in 25 minutes. (For non-wooters, you can click the "Discuss this product" link for an hour-by-hour sales chart.)
And $10 with free shipping for an American Apparel shirt! And I predict they will stick with that price. "That's the way they roll."
If you are interested in submitting designs, check out the discussion links and you can get a pretty good picture of the Woot crowd. Lots of geeks (and I mean that in a good way.) I suspect slogan shirts and tech-related stuff will rule.
Just saw that the launch shirts are already selling on eBay and the top bid I see at this point is $37, but there's still nearly 24 hours left.

Nope. They'll very likely do well for themselves, but Threadless don't have anything to worry about, there's room for both.
Personally I never bothered with woot because of shipping issues. Plus I find the cult of woot really creepy... people buying all sorts of crap they don't need just because It's On Woot, some of which isn't even that cheap (I am aware some of their deals are ****ing amazing, but some aren't all that).

I'll probably forget, but I'm definitely interested.

I predict they won't. It's certainly possible, but there'd be very little money in it for them. With those margins it's not worth the risk of unsold stock, or even just the marginverhead ratio. It's also unusual for a company to charge as much for a logo tee as everything else. Still, I agree with the principle that they're going to be a cheap competitor.
This should be interesting. I buy off of woot and have got some great stuff. I bought 2 keyboard and monotor stands for $20.00. The same unit is selling at Office depot for $49.95 each. I sold one to a guy for $20. so mine was free other than the $5.00 shipping.

I'm curious as to how they'll pay the designers. Will it be a flat fee or a royalty type thing.
I think this might be the exception to the rule. A royalty payment in this type of t-shirt design setting might actually be a neat way to go.
i think it will ruin it for the ones that are trying to sell their art, and it will prostitute independent designers..... if they are so cheap they must be printed on a dtg printer......

Why would you say that they are cheap if printed with a DTG printer? I dont think printing on a DTG is so cheap , and actually if done properly dtg printing holds up quite nice. I think there is advantages to all types of printing. I think if art is good it should be able to stand on its own and others wont effect that. That is just my opinion though.
