do they sell your t shirt design and make money from it, or does it link to your site like tshirtcountdown does for you to make the profit from it?

Threadless is a t-shirt design competition. You submit designs and they get voted on by the members there. If they choose your design to get printed, you get some cash and some shirts. You also give up your rights to sell that design on your own I think.

It's not a fulfillment service like cafepress or a promotional site like t-shirtcountdown. It's a totally different animal

Big businesses have simple stories.
I like Threadless alot and I submit a design each time I can.

It's not for PR for your site, it's for people who love to design.

People who want to say "I designed that t-shirt on threadless"

People who like designing but have zero interest in going through the hoops of selling their own designs.

All kinds of motivations beyond just promoting your site, although I'm sure there have been some good deals that have been made from a person's exposure by having their on threadless. It could bring a great designer a lot of business.

You don't even know anything about it, and you don't think it's worth it? Most people would consider $1500 in cash and $500 in prizes pretty worthwhile for a t-shirt design (and you do get a link to your site) given that that's above the market rate.

I definentley see the value of it with you putting it that way, my bad. From what i read on another board, you dont get a link to your site, but it sounds like you do. Sorry, didnt meant to step on any toes.

It's subtle, so it's easy enough to overlook it: at the top of each shirt's product page is the title and a "By [designer's name]" - the name is a link. Frequently it's just a link to the designer's Threadless profile, but it can be a link to their website. Select tees have a small banner graphic with a link.

I have no idea how valuable the link is - in SEO terms I'm sure it's at least a little useful, in human terms I'm sure some of the people who are more "into" the site check out all the links (and with a pool of hundreds of thousands of potential viewers, skimming 1% off that could equal a good traffic boost), but a lot of people presumably never notice them.
