Default How do you deal with the contact... via e-mail, fax, snail?

I've just completed my first contract "transaction" with a designer. Since neither of us could think of a good way to do it I simply drafted one up, e-mailed it to him, and he will print it out, sign it and send it back via snail mail. Then once I sign it should be "in action" so to speak.

Is there a better way to do this?

Are there any free .pdf programs that will allow you to make them fill-in the blank? I have a free .pdf converter that works great, but the ability to do a contract via e-mail would work a million times better.

Thanks!

So Acrobat 8 Pro will keep me the option of doing fill-in the blanks? I'll look into that. Thanks!

If you use openoffice (OpenOffice.org: Home) you can create a WORD type document and fill in the blanks and then convert it to a PDF for them to fill out.

You could also fax the signed document which is faster than snailmail.

If the person has a scanner (many graphic designers do), they could sign the document, scan it, save it as a PDF or even a high resolution JPG file and email it back.

Thanks guys. I have a word to .pdf converter, it's the ability to create highlight fill in the blanks -- so that the designer can fill them in, save the pdf file, and e-mail them back that I'm after.

Can any of the aforementioned programs do this?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you need a real signature. The best thing would be if he can print it out, sign it and fax it to you.

Wasn't a law was passed that stated electronic signatures are just as valid or legally binding as written signatures?
